Village Hall Wedding with Celebrations

Village Hall Wedding

Some of my favourite weddings have been village hall weddings. There’s something about them; they seem to be much more personal and really reflect the couple involved. However, there can also be problems, and this month I want to share some of my experience to help make your wedding the best it can be.

Why a village hall?

When it comes to planning a wedding, few venues offer the charm and intimacy of a village hall. Nestled in the heart of the community, these halls transform into a blank canvas, allowing couples to inject their personalities and style into every detail. The planning process might seem daunting, but with the right preparation, it can be an enjoyable adventure that leads to a truly unique wedding day.

There are village halls and there are village halls…

When it comes to planning a wedding, few venues offer the charm and intimacy of a village hall. Nestled in the heart of the community, these halls transform into a blank canvas, allowing couples to inject their personalities and style into every detail. The planning process might seem daunting, but with the right preparation, it can be an enjoyable adventure that leads to a truly unique wedding day.

One of the first steps in creating your village hall wedding is selecting the right venue. Each village hall has its own character, with features that can range from rustic charm to modern facilities. Consider factors such as capacity, location, and amenities. It’s wise to visit a few options in person to see how they align with your vision. You’ll want a space that feels like home, where friends and family can gather, celebrate, and create lasting memories.

Think about parking, you’re not going to be very popular if you’ve picked the perfect village hall, but it has very limited parking, and your guests end up parking along roads and streets, causing an obstruction. Though you could have parking elsewhere and hire a vintage bus to move your guests around.

Village halls with multiple rooms you can use are great as they allow for different set-ups during the day, from perhaps a ceremony, to the wedding breakfast and evening entertainment. Being able to usher your guests into a different room can make life a whole lot easier.

Once you’ve secured your venue, the fun of personalising your wedding begins. From themed décor to bespoke seating arrangements, every choice can reflect who you are as a couple. Enlist family and friends to help with DIY elements, such as handmade centrepieces or a personalised guest book. This not only adds a personal touch but also brings your loved ones into the journey, creating a sense of togetherness before the big day.

Food and Drink

Catering is another important aspect of your village hall wedding. Whether you opt for a sit-down meal, a buffet, or even a food truck, ensure the menu is a true reflection of your tastes. Consider sourcing local produce or collaborating with nearby caterers to enhance the community feel of your celebration. Remember to accommodate any dietary requirements to ensure every guest feels included. Also, think of drinks; most village halls don’t have bars (though some do). Think about what you’re going to provide for your guests. You can hire mobile bars who will come along and supply everything for you, or you may like the idea of your own bar run by a family member, but I would advise stocking with only a few limited options, or it can quickly get out of hand.

How I can help

Speaking of getting out of hand… one thing that I can really help you with at your village hall wedding is running things for you. I’ve been to many village hall weddings as an evening-only DJ with the booking to start from 8 pm. But, on arrival at around 7 pm, I’ve found the guests are only just sitting down to start their meal! I can’t set up, because there is currently no room and the evening then gets shortened.

Village hall weddings can easily develop a life of their own, and the best pre-planned timelines can easily slip. No one wants to rush, especially if it’s a beautiful day; it’s almost impossible to get everyone to come inside to be seated for food and speeches.

As an experienced, highly skilled Master of Ceremonies, I liaise with my clients long before the big day to fully understand what they want from their day… what’s important? How do they want their guests to feel? Then, together, we create a plan and a timeline.
On the day, I am there to guide the proceedings so that everything you planned happens and we follow the timeline we’ve planned. This isn’t done in a stiff, regimental type way – I’m not there to boss everyone about and take over! It’s a gentle guidance developed over years of doing this.

Entertainment plays a vital role in setting the tone for your wedding day. This is where an experienced DJ and Master of Ceremonies like me can make all the difference. I not only provide a diverse playlist tailored to your preferences but also bring my expertise to ensure a seamless flow of events. From the first dance to the final song of the night, I know how to keep the energy high and the dancefloor full. My ability to read the room and blend requests with skill ensures that every moment is memorable.

In the lead-up to your wedding day, communication is key. I’m readily available to offer advice and guidance, helping you navigate the logistics of your event. My wealth of experience means I can provide insightful recommendations on timings, song choices, and even traditions you may want to incorporate. With me by your side, you’ll feel more confident in your decisions, allowing you to embrace the excitement of your upcoming celebration.

As your wedding day approaches, remember to take a moment for yourselves amidst the hustle and bustle. Enjoy the thrill of planning and the anticipation of celebrating your love. With careful preparation, attention to detail, and the support of professionals like me, your village hall wedding will indeed be the extraordinary celebration you’ve always dreamed of. Your love story deserves to be celebrated, and what better way than in a setting filled with warmth, character, and personal touches that reflect who you are together.

We honestly couldn’t have asked for better! From the very beginning, Alan went above and beyond to help us plan every detail of our day, from editing our first dance song perfectly to organising a surprise voice clip from our son Jaxon before I walked down the aisle, which made such a special moment even more meaningful.

Alan worked seamlessly with all of our suppliers and even stepped in to sort a huge last-minute issue when our 12-foot cherry blossom tree arch needed moving — something neither the vendor nor the venue could help with! Life saver!

When it came to the evening, he kept the dance floor full all night with the perfect mix of songs and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. We’re so grateful for everything he did to make our day unforgettable. Highly, highly recommend! Thank you so much Alan!
